“Round is the Mooncake” Activity
For the Round is the Mooncake activity, we are going to draw some animals and a house using only basic shapes.
“Round is a Mooncake” is a delightful children’s picture book written by Roseanne Thong and beautifully illustrated by Grace Lin. The book takes readers on a journey through the everyday life of a young Chinese-American girl, exploring the concept of shapes found in objects familiar to her cultural heritage. The story blends cultural insight with the charm of everyday objects, teaching children about shapes while celebrating the richness of Chinese traditions.
To complement this enchanting story, a craft can be designed that incorporates animals and a house made entirely out of shapes. This craft would not only reinforce the concepts of shapes but also add a playful and interactive element to the storytelling experience for young readers.

- Paper

Draw a House
Start by drawing a square. Next, draw a triangle for the roof. Then, draw a rectangle for the door. Lastly, draw a square for the window. You can get creative if you want and add a garden with flowers and trees.
Let’s, get creative! Time to share what you create! We would love to see it. Happy Homeschooling!
This craft not only reinforces shape recognition but also allows children to engage with the story’s cultural elements in a hands-on and creative way. It’s a great activity for both individual and group settings, fostering imagination and cultural appreciation.
