Little Lions Epic Writing Quest!

Quarter 2 Art Contest 2024/25

Age Groups:

  • Kinder – 2nd Grade
  • 3rd – 5th Grade
  • 6th Grade and up

Theme:

The theme for this year’s writing contest is My Dream Adventure. Your story should be your own creative work and is an Imaginative Narrative. Some ideas include a journey to a far-off land, an underwater exploration, a space odyssey, or even an adventure in your own backyard!

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Word Count:
    • Kinder – 2nd Grade: 50 – 200 words
    • 3rd – 5th Grade: 200 – 500 words
    • 6th Grade and up: 500 – 1,000 words
  2. Accepted Genres: Submissions should be in the form of an Imaginative Narrative.
  3. Format:
    • Typed or handwritten (if handwritten, please upload a clear scan or photo)
    • If typed, use a readable font like Times New Roman or Arial, 12 pt.
    • Include a title page with the authors name and a drawing depicting the story.
  4. Originality: All entries must be original and written by the student. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
  5. Submission: All entries must be emailed to [email protected] by the deadline and include the student’s full name, grade level, and a parent’s contact email.

Judging Criteria:

Entries will be judged based on:

  • Creativity: Originality of the story, and creative use of the theme.
  • Structure and Grammar: Age-appropriate spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
  • Expression: How well the writing expresses emotions, ideas, or images.
  • Engagement: How engaging and enjoyable the piece is to read.

Prizes:

  • Kinder – 2nd Grade: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive $20, $15, or a $10 gift card.
  • 3rd – 5th Grade: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive $20, $15, or a $10 gift card.
  • 6th Grade and up: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive $20, $15, or a $10 gift card.

Rules:

  • One submission per student.
  • Entries must be submitted by Thursday, December 19th 5pm Phoenix Time
  • By entering, you grant Little Lions Learn the right to display your work on our website and social media platforms.

Writing Prompt Ideas (not required to use)

Kinder – 2nd Grade:

  1. If you could go on an adventure with any animal, what animal would it be, and where would you go?
  2. Imagine you found a magic door in your backyard. Where does it lead, and what do you find on the other side?
  3. You’re the captain of a pirate ship! Where will you sail, and what treasure will you find?
  4. If your favorite toy came to life and took you on an adventure, what would you do together?

3rd – 5th Grade:

  1. You wake up one morning to find that you can fly! Where do you go, and what adventures do you have in the sky?
  2. You’ve been given a magical map that leads to a hidden island. What does the island look like, and what mysteries or creatures do you discover there?
  3. Imagine you’re an explorer traveling through space. What planets or stars do you visit, and what kind of life forms do you meet?
  4. You have the power to shrink down to the size of a bug for a day. What adventure do you have in the tiny world around you?

6th Grade and Up:

  1. You’ve been chosen to lead an expedition to the most mysterious place on Earth—somewhere no one has ever gone before. Where is it, and what challenges do you face on the journey?
  2. If you could time travel to any era in history, where would you go, and what adventure would you have in that time period?
  3. You and your best friend discover a hidden portal in the forest that transports you to a different dimension. Describe the world on the other side and the adventure you embark on.
  4. You receive a letter from a famous adventurer asking for your help on a secret mission. Where do you go, and how do you help them complete the mission?
